Superbowl Trailer: Marvel’s “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”

Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is, arguably, the most anticipated show in the impressive Disney+ line-up. It was originally set to kick of the MCU’s Disney+ offerings, but a mixture of the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters kept production from completing on time. However, it’s complete now, and, in fact, it’s said that project is to be the most expensive TV show made, with each of its episodes coming with $25 million price tag. And with the series gearing up for a March debut, Disney has started the marketing push in earnest and released a new trailer during the Superbowl.

The general story has been known for a while, with The Falcon teaming up with the ex-villain The Winter Soldier to both lay claim to the Captain America mantle once and for all, and to take down a new terrorist organization in The Flag-Smashers. And there will be plenty of returning faces, with Baron Zemo from Civil War and Steve Rogers’ former love interest, Sharon Carter, back for more MCU action.

What’s interesting about this trailer is that it provides more of a look at the villains. Baron Zemo declares that he was about to “let my work go unfinished” and declares that there should be no superheroes, though that could be just smoke and mirrors. We also get more of a look at the Flag-Smashers, who seem to be a march larger band of brigands that first imagined and might not be as evil as first thought.

The most crucial bit of info was a more comprehensive look at John Walker, who’s known in the comics as US Agent, and looks to be the governments choice to replace the missing Steve Rogers as Captain America. Walker is shown as both charismatic and menacing in the trailer, and it’s clear that he’s going to be the overarching villain.

This one will be more action adventure than WandaVision and deal a little bit more with the aspect of legacy in the MCU, much like Spider-Man: Far From Home did, though it seems that things will there will be a fair amount of mystery, with the different players agendas conflicting throughout.

Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Daniel Bruhl, Emily VanCamp, Georges St-Pierre, Miki Ishikawa, Wyatt Russell, Erin Kellyman, Adepero Oduye, Desmond Chiam, Noah Mills, and Danny Ramirez star in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which will hit Disney+ on March 19th.
