“Loki” Disney+ Trailer Teases New Time Travel Organization

During their recent Investors Day presentations, Disney unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming streaming series, Loki. Little has been known about the project since its announcement, other than the fact that Tom Hiddleston’s titular anti-hero would be set during multiple time periods throughout history. It was assumed that the Asgardian prince would be able to accomplish the feat with the aid of the Tesseract, which he was seen absconding with during the events of Avengers: Endgame. However, that might not actually be the case.

With the new trailer, however, Marvel has provided a glimpse at what fans can expect from the show and how time travel functions. It appears that Loki will be forcibly working with the mysterious organization, the TVA. In the comics, this refers to the Time Variance Authority, which first appeared in the issues of Thor back in 1986 and was created by Walt Simonson and Sal Buscema.

This governing agency is responsible for monitoring the multiverse to make sure that the time stream remains safe and intact. Given that the Loki in the Disney+ series is actually a different version of the character from a splintered timeline, as a result of the Avengers traveling back to retrieve the Infinity Stones, it makes sense that he’d pop up on the radar for the TVA.

The trailer also provides the first look at Owen Wilson’s MCU character, who seems to be playing a TVA agent and the contact for Loki within the organization. The trailer goes on to show some of the epic action, though what the TVA wants from Loki, and what happened to the Tesseract after Loki transported himself with it, remains a mystery.

The series, from all appearances, will be an exciting adventure for fans of the character. It’s been rumored that the series will directly tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which has begun to fill out its cast ahead of production. It may be that Loki is set to provide more of the foundation for the MCU going forward than was initially thought. The series is expected to debut on Disney+ in May of 2021.
