First Trailer: Netflix’s “The Witcher: Blood Origin”
The Witcher franchise is one of Netflix’s most popular, with audiences and critics hailing the Henry Cavill-led series as a triumph. The shows success quickly led to a second season renewal, as well as several spin-offs. The first was an animated series titled Nightmare of the Wolf, which was a moderate success for the streamer. However, the spin-off that got everyone talking was Blood Origin which recently released its first trailer, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the production.
The series takes place in an elven world 1200 years ago and will showcase the creation of the first-ever Witcher, and the trials that came along with that creation, as well as the events that lead to the pivotal ‘Conjunction of the Spheres’ when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged into one.
While Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia is naught but a distant thought, Blood Origin features three new characters that will lead the show, creating more of an ensemble nature than its live-action predecessor. Sophia Brown plays a wanderer named Eile with a mysterious past who teams up with a warrior named Fjall (Laurence O’Fuarain) and an elf maiden named Scian (Michelle Yeoh), who is on a quest to find a missing sword.
Declan de Barra serves as showrunner for the upcoming spinoff and executive produces alongside Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, and Matt O’Toole. The Witcher: Blood Origin is expected to premiere sometime in 2022.
