Trailer: Terry Gilliam Documentary “He Dreams Of Giants”

Terry Gilliam has one of the most eclectic filmmakers going. He’s built up a resume of projects that are often experimental and original. One of the productions that was closest to the director, though, was 2018’s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which took him decades to get off the ground and a number of false starts. When the movie finally did debut, it was with a bit of a whimper, with reviews being kind, but nowhere near what anyone expected. Now, Gilliam has released a trailer for He Dreams of Giants, a documentary about the struggles of getting his dream project made.

The film will chronicle the ups and downs of the creative process behind The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, as well as the health scares the famed artist endured. Particular focus will be given to how the lukewarm reception to his lifelong dream affected Gilliam.

This documentary is also something of a follow-up to his 2002 effort, Lost in La Mancha, which recounted Gilliam’s first major attempt at filming Quixote with star Johnny Depp. The production was nothing short of a tragedy, with constant issues arising at every turn. Its failure hit Gilliam hard and had a huge impact on his career.   was released and chronicled the demise and heartbreak of Gilliam’s first attempt with the project shortly after filming began.

He Dreams of Giants is being helmed by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe. It is being set to release in key European territories at the end of March, but there is no distribution plan for North America or anywhere else, as of yet.
