Trailer: Sylvester Stallone Is A Superhero In “Samaritan”

Sylvester Stallone is once again taking on the role of a superhero in Amazon Prime’s upcoming feature Samaritan, which was directed by Overlord and Son of a Gun helmer Julius Avery, for which the streamer just dropped the first trailer.

The story sees thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary (Javon ‘Wanna’ Walton) discover that his mysterious and cantankerous neighbor, Mr. Smith (Stallone), is actually a superhero that the world has long thought dead after a brutal fight with is arch nemesis, apltly named Nemesis. Their final battle capped off with a terrible fire that it was assumed Samaritan perished in. However, crime is increasing  in Granite City and there is something sinister on the rise that only a hero can contend with.

The film seems to be striking a balance between the beloved animated superhero send-up, Megamind, and the Clint Eastwood-led Gran Torino. Not that anyone was asking for that, but either way, it should be fun now that it’s here.

Pilou Asbæk, Dascha Polanco, and Moises Arias co-star in the film which was penned by Bragi F. Schut and will premiere on Amazon on August 26th.
