The 2021 Golden Globe Awards Nominations
We are living in unprecedented times, and Hollywood has been forced to change the way their products get released. And with so few films released theatrically over the past year, there was some doubt that awards shows would happen as they usually do. But those fears have proven unfounded, as the nominations for the 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards went wide this morning. Actresses Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson were on hand to provide the announcements for the HFPA.
And due to the continued COVID pandemic, this year’s ceremony will be different that any other in history, as it bicoastal, with multiple locations for the broadcast being set up. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been tapped to co-host the proceedings once again, with Fey broadcasting live from Rockefeller Center’s The Rainbow Room in New York City, while Poehler will hold down the fort at Globes’ usual location inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
It’s not clear how the ceremony will happen, either in-person or via remote acceptance, though it seems likely that the Globes will take a page out the Emmys and have a mixture of both. Fans will find out sooner than later, as the Golden Globe Awards will air live on Sunday, February 28th.
As far as the nominations go, The Crown got the most nominations in the television categories with six, though the fan-favorite sitcom Schitt’s Creek was close behind with five. On the film side, David Fincher’s Netflix feature, Mank, led the pack with six nominations, while Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 was next in line with five.
