Trailer: “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It”
Warner Bros. hit serious pay dirt when it released James Wan’s The Conjuring way back in 2013. The film did away with the gore-heavy elements that had been dominating the genre for years and, instead, focused on story and suspense. The result is an atmospheric thriller that had audiences on the edge of their seats and is considered, by many, to be a modern-day horror classic. The film has since been expanded with several spin-offs and a sequel, with a third official entry due titled The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It due out on June 4th.
Micahel Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona) takes the helm from James Wan, who also had a hand in developing the story. Meanwhile, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick wrote the script and is also receiving a story credit. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back as the titular paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in their fourth official franchise appearances. Ruairi O’Connor, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Julian Hilliard are also joining the cast for this threequel which is being hailed as the biggest and darkest entry in the franchise to date.
This time around, the Warrens are fighting for the soul of a young boy who is supposedly under the control of otherworldly forces and is being forced to do truly horrific things. The Warrens find themselves pushed to their limits in a story that shakes them both to their cores. The movie is further notable because it is telling the story of a real-life case where a a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a defense. This was the first instance of that defense being utilized in the history of the US and set a sort of precedence for it.
In combination with a theatrical release, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will also be available on HBO Max.
