Teaser Trailer: Marvel’s “The Eternals”

Marvel’s The Eternals has had a long road to the big screen. Many have looked at the superhero team-up film as a huge risk, as it’s even more of an unknown quantity that Guardians of the Galaxy was back in 2014. Add to that the repeated delays due to the pandemic, and more than any other Marvel project, expectations surrounding this movie have cooled a little. Even so, Disney has continued the marketing push, and things have definitely ramped up now, with a teaser for the project finally dropping.

The plot will follow an immortal superhero team who have been in hiding for millennia, but must return to face down their ancient foes, The Deviants, who stand as humankind’s greatest threat. What these villains are after and why The Eternals are the only one’s who can stop them are still under wraps.

Gemma Chan leads the ensemble cast as the powerful Sersi, with Richard Madden as the warrior Ikaris, Brian Tyree Henry as the eccentric inventor Phastos, Lauren Ridloff a speedster named Makkari, and a jacked Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo who can wield the power cosmic, all rounding out the squad.

The cast also includes the likes of Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan, and Don Lee. Notably, Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington is onboard as the character Dane Whitman, better known as the superhero Black Knight. This is particularly interesting because Whitman is more of a modern hero who gets his powers from the Ebony Blade. There is a theory that this weapon will be the big MacGuffin for the movie, with the action ultimately leading to Harington’s character taking possession of the sword and transforming into his heroic persona.

The trailer doesn’t go to in-depth into the story, though, rather it provides some brief sneak peeks at the action and the characters. In the run up to the film’s November 5th debut, it’s likely that more details will drop. The Eternals is directed Chloe Zhao from a script by Kaz and Ryan Firpo and is currently set for an exclusive first run in theaters, much like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
