First Trailer: Roku’s “WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story”
One of the more unique projects coming out this year is Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a biopic about the quirky musical satirist starring Harry Potter alum Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role.
The story will explore everything in Yankovic’s life, from his childhood in suburban California to his unexpected and meteoric rise to fame in the music industry, notably focusing on his “torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle”.
Over the course of his career, Weird all has one five Grammy awards and has become the most prolific musical comedian going, with his albums regularly breaking sales records. He’s most noted for his parodies of Michael Jackson music in the 80s and 90s, though more recently his “White & Nerdy” cover of Chamillionaire’s “Ridin’ Dirty” is perhaps what he is best known for.
Yankovic wrote the script alongside Eric Appel, who also directed the project. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is set to premiere on The Roku Channel sometime in the Fall, though a specific date has yet to be announced.
