Zack Snyder Talks Justice League And His DCEU Future

Zack Snyder’s return to the DCEU to finish his version of Justice League has been something of a miracle. It took years of fan support and asking after the failed Snyder/Whedon hybrid that originally released in 2017. And with the recent success of Wonder Woman 1984, many are looking for the superhero team-up to continue that trend and return the auteur director to the DC fold.

However, assuming that Snyder will be back for more superhero adventures is, perhaps, a little presumptive. The director does have a lot on his plate, especially with his Netflix feature, Army of the Dead being turned into a franchise that will encompass multiple films and a limited series.

Snyder’s future with the DCEU might not be certain, but he is keeping the door open. Speaking with CBD about the possibility of helming another DC production, Snyder said that:

Look, I never thought I’d be here doing this. I didn’t think I’d be finishing Justice League… The truth is, and it’s been widely reported, and I have no issue, this is an old movie. This is a years-old movie I’m working on. The DC universe has gone and branched off and done its own thing and that’s fine. As far as what I did and as far as what my vision for what I wanted to do with these characters and the journey I wanted them to go on, it’s well known that I planned on more movies – five movies or something – but I’m busy. I’ve got a lot going on. Is it cool that the fans have so much faith in the trajectory? Yes, it’s amazing, and I couldn’t be happier and I’m excited for them to see Justice League so they can really drink the entire elixir of Justice League. But would I continue? I have no plan to. But like I said, I didn’t think I’d be here, so who knows?

While this noncommittal statement is a little disappointing, it is certainly good to hear that he’d be willing to return. Though, he’s right in that fans should focus on what’s happening now, and not worry too much about what’s coming after. It’s a stroke of luck that his Justice League is even happening at all.
