“Superman & Lois” Gets An Extended First Episode
There has been a lot of change for the CW’s Arrowverse in the last year or so. The series that kicked off the shared TV universe, Arrow, came to an emotional end after eight archery-filled seasons, while two of its fellows, Supergirl and Black Lightning will be ending after this year. And though there seem to be a lot of finales on the way, there is still a lot to look forward to, like newcomer Superman & Lois, which sees Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their titular roles.
The CW dropped a full trailer for the Man of Steel’s new show last month, to great acclaim, with many pointing out the seemingly whimsical tone as a nice change of pace and it has been steadily building hype ahead of its February 23rd debut since then. Now, the network has announced that the show will get a supersized kickoff, with the inaugural episode clocking in at 90 minutes. The show will air at 8pm EST and will be directly followed by a half-hour special titled “Superman & Lois: Legacy of Hope”.
That special will feature sneak peeks and interviews with cast of the new series about how it will fit into the overall narrative of the Arrowverse. There will also be some special guests will also be on hand to discuss the legacy of DC’s most prominent and powerful hero. As a result of this, the upcoming seventh season premiere of “The Flash” has been delayed a week and is will now drop on Tuesday, March 2nd.
This shows a lot of faith in the show, which many were somewhat skeptical about when it was first announced. However, it’s looking like the CW is counting on Superman & Lois to become the new crown jewel of their DC content. Whether it can live up to the hype remains to be seen, but the Arrowverse is coming off of a banner year, with some of their best efforts to date, so there is every reason to be hopeful.
