Steinfeld Talks About Her Badass “Hawkeye” Character
For quite awhile, Marvel’s Hawkeye Disney+ series was a bit of an unknown, much like it’s sister series, Loki. It was assumed, almost since its initial announcement, that the show would both explore the history of Jeremy Renner’s titular archer and allow the character to pass on his superhero mantle to fan favorite, Kate Bishop.
That story was more or less confirmed when Hailee Steinfeld was announced for the role of Bishop when shooting officially kicked off on the new series back in September. Whether this project will mark the final appearance of Renner’s Clint Barton in the MCU, remains to be seen though. Either way, the production is building up a lot of buzz.
And no one seems more excited about Hawkeye than Steinfeld herself. During a recent interview with ET Online, the actress opened up about the role and the many possibilities ahead for her in the Marvel universe, stating that:
I can’t wait for people just to see how we are interpreting this character through the comics. In her own sort of ways, she’s such a badass. There’s no denying that. She’s so smart and witty and quick, and her physical ability to do so many things is through the roof. It’s really tested me, and it’s kept me going through quarantine, I will say, it’s given me a reason to stay with it.
Kate Bishop is a character that comic fans have long wanted to see interpreted on the screen. She’s a unique individual that is strikingly similar in personality to Clint Barton, while at the same time an excellent foil for him. It’s likely that the production will play up this inherent duality for what could be one of the most personal and touching stories the MCU has yet told.
As yet, Hawkeye doesn’t have a set release. Though filming will likely be complete in the next couple of months, it could release sometime in either late 2021 or more likely 2022 on Disney+.
