“Star Wars” Actor Diego Luna Talks “Andor” Filming Process
There has been a lot of Star Wars news dropping lately. From news that Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader to the finale of The Mandalorian announcing a Boba Fett series is set for December 2021, fans of the franchise have a lot to be excited about.
However, one of the more intriguing stories of late is that the Rogue One prequel show featuring fan favorite character Cassian Andor had already started production. Now, the leading man of the project, Diego Luna, has opened up about what the process is like during an interview with THR. Specifically, the titular star compared the filming to its predecessor, Rogue One, stating that:
The way we’re shooting this reminds me of how we shot the film, and the amount of work behind this TV series reminds me of the work you do for a film. It feels like we’re doing a very long movie… It’s really interesting to tell a story even though we know where it ends. I think the format of a series is amazing because we have a lot of time to explore all those layers.
Many have pointed to this particular series being a little extraneous, as the character’s ultimate fate is already known with him perishing over the course of Rogue One and there didn’t seem to be much of a story left to tell. However, Cassian Andor is the perfect character to usher audiences into the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars franchise and offer a new avenue for future stories.
The character is portrayed as a good man with a code, but also one that’s willing to do whatever is necessary for the betterment of the universe. Much like The Mandalorian has explored so unknown area in Star Wars that are now leading to more franchises, Andor could do the same, opening up a kind of spy-thriller genre that hasn’t been utilized much.
Either way, it’s good to hear such excitement from those behind the Star Wars show. Andor is currently in production on its first season for Disney+ that will be comprised of 12 episodes. There is no set airdate, though a 2022 release is likely.
