Star Trek Picard Season 2 Production Begins In January
Star Trek: Picard is one of the more divisive offerings from the franchise of late. There are many who loved the show for the chances it took with the established formula. Others, though, felt that the streaming series strayed to far from the core tenets of Star Trek. Either way, the show was an uncontested success.
Ever since the season 1 finale back in March, fans have been clamoring for information about the show, but little has been provided by the executives, even though a renewal was quickly handed out. There have been some nuggets dropped about various possible guest stars, such as Gates McFadden possibly returning as one-time Picard love interest Dr. Beverly Crusher. But as for when these episodes would start filming, especially in the midst of the pandemic, has been up in the air.
That’s changed now, though, as Evan Evagora, who played Elnor, a Ronin-esque Romulan who look to Picard as a father figure, dropped the news that production on the series will pick up in January of 2021. Specifically, during an interview with Trekmovie.com, Elnor stated that:
Yeah, January we will be filming. I don’t know if they have posted the date. All I know is everyone’s saying January, January, January. So, we’ll start season two there and in my opinion it cannot come quicker. I’m so excited, not just to get back to work, but to get back to the motley crew and hang out with everyone… in California.
This means there will be quite a long break between the seasons, but it’s good to know there is progress. While the Star Trek films might be in a continuing state of flux, but the small screen universe is moving along briskly. Discovery is currently airing its third season on CBS All Access, while Star Trek: Picard could possibly debut its sophomore effort as soon as this summer, if everything goes well.
