New ‘WandaVision” TV Spot And Theme Talk

Marvel Studios has a lot of interesting content coming down the pipeline. From the unexpected cosmic team-up, The Eternals, to the time-traveling shenanigans of fan-favorite villain Loki, the MCU machine is cranking on all cylinders. However, one of the most exciting and intriguing projects is the Disney+ series, WandaVision, with Marvel just releasing a new TV spot.

From the outset there has been some mystery swirling about this show, as one of the main characters, Paul Bettany’s The Vision, perished during Avengers: Infinity War. Since then, it’s been shared that the plot will see the show bouncing between eras and television sitcom formats, and seems to be an attempt from Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch to cope with the loss of her love and partner.

Now, speaking with Rolling Stone, composing Duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Coco) commented on the unique format of the show. They seem particular intrigued with the focus on sitcoms, which isn’t something typically associated with superhero fare, with Lopez stating:

WandaVision is such a cool, strange, one-of-a-kind project. When the director, Matt Shakman — an old friend from my college days — pitched it to us, we didn’t have to think about it. We loved the bright feeling of American sitcoms mixed with the deep sense of unease the story had, and it was a really inviting challenge to help set that tone.

The pair are set to create theme songs representative of the sitcom genre, and harkening back to the various eras that will be represented, with Anderson-Lopez quickly elaborating that:

I grew up in the Eighties watching shows from every decade on the networks all day long. Episodes from I Love LucyBrady Bunch, and Family Ties shaped who I am and how I move through the world. So this project was a dream come true.

It’s good to hear such passion from the creative behind the show. It’s clear that there is a lot of emphasis on this project being unlike anything else seen in the MCU. WandaVision will run for 9 episodes, which will start airing on the Disney streamer on January 15th.
