McGregor Talks “Obi-Wan Kenobi” And Possible Crossovers

The character Cal Kestis in "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order"

Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi has been one of the most anticipated shows the fledgling steamer has announced thus far in its short run. This is largely due to that fact that the project will see Ewan McGregor reprise the role and he’ll be facing off against the iconic villain, Darth Vader, who’ll be played by an also returning Hayden Christensen.

However, now that the show is closer to airing, there has been a lot more speculation as to what the story is going to include. Specifically, talk has focused on the game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is canonical in the Star Wars universe. A leading theory is that because the game is confirmed to be happening in the same time frame as Obi-Wan Kenobi that there could be some kind of crossover or cameo, perhaps even from Cal Kestis, one of the main characters of the game, who’s voiced by Cameron Monaghan (Showtime’s Shameless).

But nothing is certain at this point and any speculation is only that. McGregor actually addressed the rumors during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The actor praised the series director, Deborah Chow, commenting that she “really knows [her stuff]” in terms of the canon of the Star Wars universe. He then touched on the possibility of a crossover, saying that:

All of the storylines have to match up… [you] can’t have some fact in a video game that doesn’t match up to the movie.

While this is far from a confirmation that the game and the show will be linked somehow, it does hint that there is a chance that they could. This has led to even more theorizing online, with fervent fans analyzing the recent Obi-Wan trailer for clues, and many agree that there are several nods to the game that can be spotted. Specifically, the purge troopers, which first appeared in Fallen Order, as well as a Jedi temple location that has only been seen in the game are glimpsed in the trailer.

While fans won’t get to see if this is true quite yet, Lucasfilm has shown itself to be quite adept at content synergy over the last few years, so the inclusion of Fallen Order material seems like a likelihood at this point. Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut its first two episodes on Disney+ on May 27th.
