Marvel’s “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” Hits #1 In Ratings
Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was a definite success for Disney+, even if the overall audience reaction was a little muted from it’s series predecessor, WandaVision. But the Marvel Studios second small screen effort really came together over the course of six-episodes and did a great job of laying the foundation for the future of the MCU. It was such a hit that it actually nabbed the top spot in the Neilson ratings for an original series during the week of April 12-18.
This is notable because Falcon is only the second Disney+ series to achieve this feat, the first being The Mandalorian. In that week, the Marvel show amassed 855 million minutes of viewing time, with its closest competition being Amazon’s Them at 655 million minutes, and Netflix dominating the rest of the rankings. The full top 10 is as follows:
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Disney+), 855 million minutes viewed
- Them (Amazon), 670 million
- The Circle (Netflix), 443 million
- Dad Stop Embarrassing Me (Netflix), 330 million
- The Crown (Netflix), 321 million
- This Is a Robbery (Netflix), 315 million
- The Serpent (Netflix), 226 million
- Who Killed Sara? (Netflix), 213 million
- The Great British Baking Show (Netflix), 196 million
- Family Reunion (Netflix) 171 million
Overall, there seemed to be a bit of a perception that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier lacked the wow factor that WandaVision had, but that’s largely because the showed stayed far truer to the Marvel formula than Scarlet Witch’s sitcom-inspired adventures did. But one thing that’s clear is that fans tuned in to see what the future of the Captain America legacy was going to look like.
If The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s performance is any indication, then the Marvel machine is still running on all cylinders and their next effort, Loki, which is perhaps the most anticipated of the announced MCU streaming offerings, could be a huge hit for Disney.
