Marvel’s “Ironheart” Finds Its Directors
While the MCU-machine is showing no signs of slowing, with Moon Knight currently drawing rave reviews from both audiences and critics, Marvel’s focus is always on what’s next and it was just announced that the highly anticipated Ironheart series has officially found its helmers, with Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes to direct the series for Disney+.
Bailey has found a lot of success directing and developing Netflix’s Dear White People, as well as the Emmy-nominated series Brown Girls. Barnes, on the other hand, is most well-known for helming several episodes of Apple TV+’s quirky workplace comedy, Mythic Quest, with her next work as a director being the fourth season of FX’s Atlanta.
Ironheart will see Dominique Thorne take on the titular role of Riri Williams, a genius inventor with a Tony Stark obsession who just so happens to build a version of the Iron Man suit in her dorm room. Thorne is joined by Lyric Ross, who’ll play the hero’s best friend, while Anthony Ramos is rumored to be portraying the villain of the show, though which bad guy he’ll be is still under wraps.
While the specific story is still under wraps, Ironheart is expected to examine the legacy of Iron Man/Tony Stark as the world continues to try and fill the void left behind by the hero. It is also widely assumed that the project will tie into Armor Wars, the upcoming series that is going to focus on Don Cheadle’s War Machine and see that character cleaning up the messes that keep popping up in the wake of Tony Stark’s untimely demise. How much the two shows will overlap is still an unknown, at this point.
It is also being noted that Black Panther’s Ryan Coogler is coming onboard as an executive producer through his Proximity production company alongside Marvel’s head honcho Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Zoie Nagelhout, and the head writer of Ironheart, Chinaka Hodge. However, there is still no set premiere date for the MCU series.
