“Lucifer” Adds New Cast Members For Final Season

Netflix’s Lucifer is one of the biggest cult series currently in production. While there is still half of the second season left to air, a cast announcement for the sixth season just went wide. It is being reported that Merrin Dungey (Alias) and Brianna Hildebrand (the Deadpool franchise) will join the final set of episodes, which are currently in production.

Specifically, Hildebrand is being tapped to play a rogue angel named Rory who wants to follow in the footsteps of Lucifer by rebelling against Heaven. Her motives for this haven’t been provided, but it’s likely she’ll be something of a foil for the King of Hell, an angsty circus mirror that will show Lucifer how he truly behaved all those millennia ago.

Dungey, on the other hand, will be playing a beat cop who develops a relationship with Lucifer’s brother, Amenadiel. What brings them together is similarly unclear, but this could prove interesting and provide the wayward angel something more to do than tend to his new child and clean up his brothers’ messes.

These casting, while not giving away any definitive plot points, hint at the direction this final outing for Lucifer is going to take. Audiences were devastated when Fox initially canceled the show after its third season and overjoyed when the streaming giant it. The project has gotten a lot more attention since the shift to the streamer, and the quality of the seasons has just as well-received as the FOX-era episodes. It’s looking like the fan favorite show will get a fitting send off.

The show is based on acclaimed author Neil Gaiman’s interpretation of the Devil from the DC and Vertigo comic, The Sandman. Fans quickly flocked to the irreverent and flashy, yet emotionally poignant portrayal of the titular character by Tom Ellis and many feel that he perfectly encapsulates the temperamental balance that Gaiman initially intended.

There is no definitive release scheduled for the sixth season of Lucifer, but given that season five has yet to complete, it’s likely the finale won’t debut the sometime in 2022.
