David Ramsey’s Diggle To Lead Arrowverse’s “Justice U”

While The CW’s Arrowverse has hit something of a critical slump recently, especially in the wake of acclaimed shows like Arrow and Black Lightning coming to an end in recent years, that isn’t stopping the franchise from growing, with David Ramsey returning to his role of John Diggle in Justice U, a DC Comics-inspired drama series currently in development.

In the series, fan-favorite Diggle embarks on a new mission to recruit five young meta humans (based on characters from the DC pantheon) to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university. Diggle will act as their mentor, overseeing their education and training them to become the next generation of heroes.

The big question here is whether or not Diggle will feature as the Green Lantern, as the season 8 finale of Arrow definitely hinted that he was on the way to taking up that mantle in the Arrowverse. As yet, though, that hasn’t come to pass and he may simply be taking up his old Spartan gimmick.

Ramsey served as a regular on Arrow from the very start of the show and continued on for all eight seasons through to its end in 2020. Since then, he’s continued to pop up in the franchise, guesting twice on Batwoman, and once each on Superman and Lois, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, as well as directing multiple episodes of the various shows.

Michael Narducci and Zoanne Clack are attached to write and executive produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden also executive producing. And for Ramsey’s part, he’ll not only be starring in the project, but is also set to direct the potential pilot of the series, as he has signed an overall directing deal with Berlanti Productions that will see him both direct and guest star in more episodes of multiple series across the Arrowverse.

There is no timetable for when Justice U could come to fruition on The CW, though it is likely being developed for the Fall 2022 season.
