With the next season on the horizon, audiences have begun to speculate even more about what’s to come. While all the regulars, from Karl Urban’s gruff Billy Butcher, to the nefarious Homelander, played by Anthony Starr, are all set to return, there have been a number of interesting additions to the cast.
Most notably, Jensen Ackles has been tapped to play Soldier Boy, a twisted version of Captain America that is said to be the “first superhero”. Ackles casting is particularly interesting, as he’ll be collaborating once again with Eric Kripke, the original showrunner of the beloved genre show, Supernatural.
But how Soldier Boy will fit into the story is still unknown. It’s been made clear that his role will be quite different from the comics, and many are speculating that Vought will be bringing him back into the fold as something of a replacement for Homelander, whose stock is at an all time low following the events of the season two finale.
However, everything is just speculation at this point, as the creatives behind the show have been tight lipped. Whatever the case, audiences don’t have long to wait. While there hasn’t been a specific release date announced, given that production is now complete, it’s possible the show could debut sometime early next year. Historically though, The Boys, has hit during the summer, so a June/July 2022 debut isn’t out of the question.
