“Falcon” Series To Setup Multiple MCU Projects
Marvel Studios’ first television production, WandaVision, was a wild success, becoming a hot topic online for the entirety of its run and, at one point, becoming the most watch program in the world. Moreover, it laid a lot of groundwork for Phase 4 of the MCU, leading directly into Sam Raimi’s “Doctor Strange” sequel film. It seems like this is going to be a trend going forward, as word has it that the next show on the slate, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is going to have integral ties to a number of upcoming projects.
During an interview with EW this week, showrunner Malcolm Spellman was asked about how the show connected to the movies, as well as if it is set to be a one-off, ala WandaVision. Surprisingly, Spellman answered, stating that there are “three projects in the future that directly tie into this series”, however he was quick to note that he couldn’t elaborate further, so which productions he was referencing is still a mystery.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige also chimed in on the topic, stating that any talk regarding Anthony Mackie’s Falcon and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier entered into “the spoiler realm” and that they “have a future charted for characters post-‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ but I don’t want to say much more than that.”
Another little revelation from Feige has to do with Madripoor, which is a location closely associated with the X-Men’s Wolverine, and it just so happens that the fictional island nation will appear in some for or fashion in Falcon. Commenting on this, Feige stated that
There’s a setting in particular that people have already glimpsed in some of the trailers that is a setting from the Marvel Comics that was not previously available to us, but it’s more of an Easter egg in and of itself.
WandaVision had an a little X-Men surprise, as Evan Peters reprised the role of Quicksilver in the show, but that was a bit of a red herring, as he proved to be neither the MCU version, or the FOX one. Even so, it was a nice nod and it’s clear that Marvel has plans to slowly integrate small bits of the mythology going forward.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier consists of six-episodes that pick up after the events of Avengers: Endgame with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) teaming up with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) to take on a new threat and decide whether or not he wants to take on the responsibility of becoming the next Captain America. The series will debut on March 19th, exclusively on the Disney+ streaming app.
