Disney Casts WWE Superstar Edge in “Percy Jackson”

One of the more anticipated shows coming to Disney+ is the Percy Jackson reboot series. While the first film, based on The Lightning Thief novel, has its fans, the immediate follow-up left much to be desired and FOX (the studio behind the films) dropped further adaptations. This turned out to be a good thing, as most didn’t feel the movies accurately captured the tone of the books from author Rick Riordan.

And needing to feed the streaming beast its created, Disney was quick to announce a series for the acclaimed book series, with promises that it would be stick closer to the source material. And now, per a report from Variety, Adam Copeland, better known to pro wrestling fans as the WWE superstar Edge, has been cast in the recurring role of Ares, the God of War.

Alongside the report, there is also a breakdown of the character, which describes him as “handsome in a wicked way and arrogant, despite not always being the sharpest tool in the shed. He loves conflict and acts as an agent of chaos wherever he goes.” Copeand joins a cast that already includes Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri, Leah Sava Jeffries, Suzanne Cryer, and Jessica Parker Kennedy.

Copeland first made his way to the WWE as Edge in 1998. Though he was forced to retire in 2011 as the result of a neck injury, he was successfully able to return to in-ring competition in 2020, eventually going on to headline Wrestlemania alongside Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan. But it’s not only the squared circle where Copeland has made a name for himself. He has also been a big presence in television, appearing in a main role on SyFy’s Eureka, and later featuring significantly in Vikings as a norse knig (though why he’s yet to form an alliance with the Viking Raiders in WWE is anyone’s guess).

Percy Jackson is expected to hit Disney+ sometime in 2024.
