Tiffany Haddish Goes Sci-Fi In “Landscape With Invisible Hand”
Tiffany Haddish is one of the most eclectic performers in Hollywood right now. Known primarily for her comedic performances, in hits like Girls Trip and Night School alongside Kevin Hart, she has begun to try and stretch herself with the occasional dramatic role. To that point, the actress is purportedly in final negotiations to star in Landscape with Invisible Hand, a sci-fi epic from Brad Pitt’s Plan B production studio.
The film will be an adaptation of M.T. Anderson’s National Book Award-winning novel of the same name. The book was originally released in 2017 and quickly became a sensation in literary circles for its stark portrayal of a dystopian future. Cory Finley (Bad Education) has been tapped to both write and direct, while Annapurna, who got the film rights back in 2017, will be distributing the project, in conjunction with MGM and United Artists Releasing.
Landscape portrays an alternate future where an alien species known as the Vuvv has taken over Earth, which caused Earth’s job market and global economy to quickly collapse. The story will follow a teenage couple who hatch a scheme to make some money by broadcasting their relationship the world. The aliens are initially fascinated but, things soon go awry as the increased scrutiny breeds enmity between them, but they can’t break up because everything they’d built together would fall apart.
What Haddish’s role will be in in the project hasn’t been announced, nor have there been any other casting announcements. Given the source material, its likely she’ll play an alien or, perhaps, a family member of the titular young couple who’s able to be something of a comic relief.
There is no timetable for the production, though with the announcements coming now, it’ll likely kick off filming sometime during the Summer or Fall. Tiffany Haddish can next be seen in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Here Today.
