“Thor: Love & Thunder” Brings Lady Sif Back For The Sequel
While it has been speculated on, and long hoped for by fans, it has been officially announced that Jaimie Alexander will be reprising her MCU role as Lady Sif in the upcoming Thor: Love & Thunder.
The actress first appeared as the Asgardian warrior in the original Thor, as well as the follow-up, Thor: The Dark World. She would go on to be one of the few links in the MCU between the movies and the small screen, as she would guest on ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. twice. These appearances would prove to be her final appearances in the franchise at the time.
Due to scheduling conflicts with her show, Blindspot, and a desire from director Taiki Waititi to strip Thor down to its basics, Alexander’s Sif was left out of the well-received Thor: Ragnarök. While this means that she wasn’t murdered at the hands of Hela, as were The Warriors Three and Mjolnir, it left a rather large plot hole for the film series. There was no explanation given for why she wasn’t on Asgard, where she was, or why Thor never bothered to find her.
Moreover, she didn’t appear in any of the Avengers films. Fans were particularly disappointed she wasn’t included in the all-female A-Force team-up during the climactic final battle of Endgame, which featured nearly every heroine in the MCU. This was particularly frustrating as Alexander’s portrayal of Sif is often considered excellent and she was one of the few early MCU female characters to hold her own against her male counterparts.
How she’ll impact the story of Love & Thunder, or why she’ll be finally returning hasn’t yet been elaborated on. However, it’s also being rumored that she’ll guest star on the Disney+ series Loki, which just released a new trailer, so perhaps she’ll be a link between those two projects and provide a reason for the wayward Asgardian prince to return for the sequel.
Whatever the case, it’s exciting news that she’s going to return. Thor: Love & Thunder is set to begin production in Sydney next month, with Waititi back as director, ahead of a February 2022 release.
