Reeves And DC Already Planning A Sequel For “The Batman”
Matt Reeves and DC’s The Batman is one most anticipated projects coming out this year, with the story being praised for its noir roots which harken back to the early days of the character in the comics, as well as the casting of Robert Pattinson in the titular role. And while the excitement for the movie is at a fever pitch, Warner Bros. is so confident in its success that they’ve started talking about a sequel.
In fact, while appearing at the London premiere of the film, Reeves opened up about a follow-up with The Independent, as well as touching on the previously announced HBO Max streaming series tie-ins, stating that:
I really believe in what we’ve done, and I’d be excited to tell more stories… We are already telling other stories in the streaming space, we’re doing stuff on HBO Max, we’re doing a Penguin show with Colin [Farrell], which is gonna be super cool. And we’re working on some other stuff, too, but we have started talking about another movie.
What shape a sequel could take is anyone’s guess, as, according to the director, during an interview with EW, “You don’t do a story and go, ‘This is Chapter 1’ because you might not get to do Chapter 2. So, the story had to stand on its own.” So, it’s clear that while the intention is to move forward with the franchise, there isn’t a definitive story coming out of The Batman.
Reeves continued, stating that he was heavily influenced by Hitchcock and Chinatown during the production of the film and that Batman/Bruce Wayne “is in almost every scene in the movie” guaranteeing that this installment will be intensely personal and really revolve around the Caped Crusader.
Certainly, the success of the movie will dictate if a sequel gets a greenlight, but at this point it seems clear that everyone Is keen on continuing. The Batman will hit cinemas on March 4th.
