Nicolas Cage Keen To Play Batman Villain Egghead
Actor and general Legend Nicolas Cage recently popped up at the Toronto International Film Festival and was interviewed by the Happy Sad Confused podcast. While they covered a several topics of subjects (seriously, check out the ep!) one juicy nugget that the actor dropped was that he’d like the chance to play the lesser-known Batman villain, Egghead.
Egghead actually isn’t original to the comics, having been created explicitly for the Adam West-era 1960s television show. The bad guy was portrayed by popular Horror actor, Vincent Price, who went on to make five total appearances as the villain. The character would go onto feature in the pages of DC Comics as well, featuring in books such as Gotham Academy and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. However, he never became much of a mainstay, like other popular TV creations, such as Harley Quinn.
As such, it makes it a slightly odd choice as a desired role. Cage explains his choice thoroughly, though, stating that:
You know what I mean it’s like, Egghead is Vincent Price right? He’s one of our other great American superstar actors that I revere and had so much fun watching growing up. So, I was watching the Batman show because I really wanted to see what Vincent Price was going to do. And the character’s hilarious. I mean, everything starts with ‘Egg-cellent.’ And it’s, ‘Egg-static.’ This is just more of a fun little thing. Cause I’m on a red carpet, somebody asks me a question, I want to give them a funny answer, but there is an approach to that character that could be terrifying. And I’ve thought a lot about it. I’m not going to share it with you.
It’s clear that Nicolas Cage has a passion for this character and that he’s thought a lot about the possibility, though it seems unlikely that he’ll actually het the chance to play the role of Egghead in a Batman film, though anything is possible in Hollyweird, and Cage’s recent success with ultra-eccentric characters is definitely playing in his favor. Whatever the case, Cage has several projects currently on deck, such Sympathy for the Devil alongside Suicide Squad alum Joel Kinnaman, and the clearly bonkers and much-anticipated horror comedy, Renfield.
