Margot Robbie Wants To See A Poison Ivy/Harley Quinn Movie
While the DCEU has been something of a mixed bag, with critical and box office disappointments like Justice League standing alongside well-regarded films like Man of Steel and Wonder Woman, many agree that one element that has outshone most others is Margot Robbie’s portrayal of fan-favorite character Harley Quinn.
The character first debuted in the 2016 villain ensemble Suicide Squad, where Robbie stole the spotlight in every scene that she featured in. Fan reception was so strong that, even though WB and DC went back to the drawing board in regard to Task Force X, the character of Harley Quinn would continue, with at least three adaptations getting lined up.
Eventually, the powers that be decided that the follow-up would be the Birds of Prey movie that dropped in the first part of 2020. Critics really took to that iteration, citing a smart script and well-choreographed action, but audience reception was lower than expected and the film met with a muted box office. Even so, the portrayal of Harley Quinn was seen as exceptional, and the character is set to return once again in James Gunn’s semi-reboot, The Suicide Squad.
Trust me, I chew their ear off about it all the time. They must be sick of hearing it, but I’m like, ‘Poison Ivy, Poison Ivy. Come on, let’s do it.’ I’m very keen to see a Harley-Poison Ivy relationship on screen. It’d be so fun. So, I’ll keep pestering them. Don’t worry.
It’s good to hear that Robbie is still so passionate about the role and exploring Harley Quinn’s relationship with Poison Ivy is certainly intriguing. The characters have a long history in the comics, and have even been paired together on-screen before, first in a standalone episode of Batman: The Animated Series in the 1990’s, and more recently in the Harley Quinn series now on HBO Max.
Whether this will ever come to pass in anyone’s guess, but fan reaction and Robbie’s undeniable charisma in the role could push this one to fruition. Either way, Harley Quinn will next be seen in The Suicide Squad, premiering on HBO Max and in theaters on August 6th.
