Feige Confirms That “Deadpool 3” Will Be Part Of The MCU
Comic book fans rejoiced when Disney acquired 20th Century Fox’s film assets back in 2019, and mainly because it meant that the Marvel would get access to many of the IP’s that it sold off in the 90s, most notably the X-Men and the Fantastic Four. However, there has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding their integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was announced that both the X-Men and the Fantastic Four would get rebooted and that the only character who would transfer over would be Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool.
It’s been almost two years now and there have been more questions than answers about the status of the Merc With A Mouth and how he’d fit into the established superhero dynamics of the MCU. Late last year it was confirmed that Deadpool 3 was in active development, but there were no specifics provided. That’s all changed now, though, as Marvel Studios head honcho, Kevin Feige was recently interviewed and confirmed that the third Deadpool sequel would retain its R-rating and be integrated into the MCU, specifically commenting:
It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan’s overseeing a script right now… It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We’ve got a number of things we’ve already announced that we now have to make, but it’s exciting for it to have begun. Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life.
Audiences really connected with the first film in 2016, with many hailing it as one of the best films in the superhero genre. Reynolds is pitch perfect in the role, and while the follow-up, 2018’s Deadpool 2, wasn’t as universally beloved as the first, it was still a worthy successor.
Still, the how’s and why’s of Deadpool entering the MCU remain under wraps. It’s likely, though, that it will greatly hinge on the events happening in WandaVision, which will actually feature Evan Peters reprising the role of Quicksilver, which originated in the X-Men prequels from Fox and could explain how the Deadpool from the X-Men films is now in the MCU. However, fans likely won’t get any hit of what’s to happen for quite a while, as Marvel’s slate is very full with new shows like Hawkeye and films plotted out through to 2022, and Deadpool 3 won’t hit until sometime after that.
