“Daredevil” Actor Reportedly Reprises Role In Spider-Man 3

Daredevil has been one of the most talked about Marvel characters in recent memory. Disney officially got the full rights to the character, after a brief moratorium from Netflix, due to the cancelation of the streaming series. And so now the Man Without Fear’s adventures can begin, audiences have been eagerly speculating about where he could show up.

Even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Clark Gregg got in on the action by joining the #SaveDaredevil movement on Twitter. And fans don’t just want to see a return of the character, they specifically want to see Charlie Cox pick up the mantle again.

The Netflix show that Cox starred in as the titular hero was one of the most successful productions in the MCU. The series was earnest in its portrayal of a broken man trying to do what he thought was best for his community. Moreover, the supporting cast in the series was phenomenal, with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson “Kingpin” Fisk being cited as a particular standout.

And it now seems that the #SaveDaredevil efforts might bear fruit. It’s being reported that Charlie Cox has joined the cast of the Spider-Man 3 from Sony and Marvel Studios. If true, he’d be joining former Spider-Men Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who are reprising their particular iterations, as well as a host of other characters from the franchise’s past.

Back in April, when asked about possibly returning to the MCU as Daredevil, Cox stated to Comicbook.com that, “I hadn’t heard those rumors, but it’s certainly not with my Daredevil. I’m not involved in it.” This could have been honest at the time, or merely a swerve to not spoil the surprise. Sure things are often hidden, such as Mads Mikkelson initially denying reports that he’d been cast as Johnny Depp’s replacement in Fantastic Beasts. Sometime I’s need to be dotted and T’s need to be crossed before anything can be confirmed.

While this casting hasn’t been officially announced, and, as such, is still a rumor, it does make sense from a storyline perspective. Given the events at the end of Spider-Man sequel, Far From Home, where Peter Parker had his secret identity revealed to the world, while also being accused of murder, he’ll obviously need a lawyer. And there is no better lawyer for a superhero than Daredevil, who’s real name is Matt Murdock, and he just happens to run his own law practice.

Given the amount of casting announcements for Spider-Man 3 lately, Cox getting a chance to return to the role of Daredevil is just icing on the cake. Whether he gets to suit up as his heroic alter ego, or he’s represents Peter in the criminal proceedings sure to be levied against him, fans will certainly be happy that their voices were heard. Do you think this casting is true? Do you want to see Charlie Cox return as The Mand Without Fear in Spider-Man 3? Sound off in the comments!
