Charlie Cox Reportedly On Set For “Spider-Man 3”
Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man 3 has been one of the most talked about projects of the past several months, with the focus being that the production is pulling in characters from all the previous iterations. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are set to reprise their versions of the titular webslinger from their respective franchise entries, while villains such as Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock will also be returning.
And while this is certainly exciting, one of the more titillating rumors was that Charlie Cox would be reprising the role of Daredevil in the production, which he first played on the Netflix series revolving around the Man Without Fear. However, there was never any official confirmation that this would be happening.
Now though, it is being reported that the 38-year-old British actor has been spotted on set for Spider-Man 3, which is in the midst of filming. Though he wasn’t caught in costume as the red leather clad vigilante, his presence certainly adds weight to the speculation that he’ll be appearing in the upcoming movie.
This is particularly revelatory, as, since November, when the rights to use the character officially returned to Marvel, there has been a strong push from fans to #SaveDaredevil, that even got Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Clark Gregg in on the action. In fact, Kevin Feige was recently asked about utilizing characters from the Netflix shows by THR, to which he answered:
Everything is on the board. That’s one of the fun things about the comics is that characters would appear and disappear and come and go. All of it is inspiration for the future. There are some great characters and actors from those shows.
What Daredevil’s role could be in Spider-Man 3 is open to speculation, though, and it could be that Cox will only appear as Matt Murdock to be the lawyer for Peter Parker, who had his secret identity outed at the end of Far From Home, and will likely be getting charged with the murder of Mysterio. If this is the case, it’s perhaps the best way to re-introduce Daredevil to the MCU and allow general audiences not familiar with the Netflix show to get to know the man behind the devil mask.
Either way, it’s good that Feige and the folks at Marvel are opening to incorporating characters from the Netflix productions, as they were excellent and have legions of fans. And it certainly seems clear that Charlie Cox will feature in Spider-Man 3 alongside Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and regulars like Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, which will hit theaters at the end of 2021 on December 17th.
