Ben Affleck Returns As Batman In “Aquaman” Sequel
While most have assumed that Ben Affleck’s last appearance was going to be in the upcoming Flash film, it appears that he’ll dawn the cowl at least one more time in the DCEU. Actor Jason Mamoa has revealed in a post on social media that his Justice League co-star will make an appearance in James Wan’s upcoming superhero sequel Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Momoa used Instagram to drop the news, posting a picture of himself and Affleck on the set of the long-awaited sequel, alongside a video of the pair’s reunion that was taken by fans taking part in a Warner Bros. Studio Tour.
He captions it: “REUNITED bruce and arthur. love u and miss u Ben. WB studio tours just explored the backlot alright. Busted on set all great things coming AQUAMAN 2 all my aloha j”.

It’s likely that Affleck’s appearance will be little more than a cameo, some connective tissue to keep audiences aware that it’s all connected, similar to his appearance as Batman in 2016’s Suicide Squad. While there is always the chance it could be some more, the chances of that are slim, especially given Affleck’s past comments about wanting to leave the role in the past.
Wan directs from a script written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, which Momoa himself co-writing the story treatment and leading the cast, alongside Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren, Temuera Morrison and Pilou Asbæk.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to release in theaters on March 17th, 2023.
