DC’s “Black Adam” Casts Comedian Mo Amer
One of DC and Warner Bros. most anticipated upcoming film entries is Black Adam. The movie is set to star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who’s been attached to the role for several years now, and is a big proponent of the DCEU, even going so far as to push WB executives to move forward with Henry Cavill’s version of Superman, instead of abandoning it. Now, with the project on the verge of production, it has been announced that stand-up comedian Mo Amer is joining the cast.
Amer is best known for his Netflix comedy special, Mo Amer: The Vagabond. However, he has also appeared in the award-winning Hulu sitcom Ramy, playing the main character’s cousin, Mo, who happens to own a diner. He is also a member of the comedy group Allah Made Me Funny and will be featured in the upcoming production, Americanish.
The comedian joins an ensemble cast that, in addition to Dwayne Johnson, includes Pierce Brosnan, Aldis Hodge, Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell, Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer and Bodhi Sabongui. What role Amer is taking on is still under wraps, but given his comedic background, it seems likely that he’ll be some kind of funny sidekick, or something along those lines.
The movie is still something of an unknown, though the only thing that is set in stone is that Teth Adam, the first mortal chosen to wield the power of Shazam, won’t be a straight up villain, as he was originated, and will be more of an anti-hero. However, the hope and expectation is that the character will still have a face-off with Shazam at some point, perhaps in a sequel or a crossover.
Black Adam is set for release on July 29, 2022. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the feature, based off a screenplay from Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, while Johnson and his partners Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are producing through their Seven Bucks Productions banner.
