Starz Releases Photos And Synopsis For New Drama “Heels”
Many have been wondering what was next for Stephen Amell after he retired from the role of the Green Arrow, when his long-running CW series, appropriately titled Arrow, closed up shop after eight seasons last year. And it didn’t take long for that action star to announce his next project, the drams series Heels on Starz.
And while it has been awhile since any information about the show was released, Starz just released the first promotional stills, which feature Amell’s Jack Spade, the titular star of the series. The also dropped an official synopsis, which can be read below:
Heels is a story about the men and women who chase their dreams in the world of small-town pro wrestling. Set in a close-knit Georgia community, it follows a family-owned wrestling promotion as two brothers and rivals, Jack Spade (Amell) and Ace Spade (Ludwig), war over their late father’s legacy. In the ring, somebody must play the good guy (Ludwig) and somebody must play their nemesis, the heel (Amell). But in the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to — or hard to leave behind.
The show was created by writer Michael Waldron (Rick & Morty, Loki), while Mike O’Malley (Survivor’s Remorse) will both executive produce and act as showrunner. This seems like a perfect fit for Amell, who is a lifetime pro wrestling fan, and has appeared in both the WWE and AEW, as well as numerous indie promotions. Furthermore, former WWE Superstar and fan-favorite wrestler CM Punk will have a large recurring role as an antagonist for Amell’s Jack Spade. While there are no specifics, Punk will reportedly be a major star on the wrestling word and be something of a roadblock for Spade.
Heels is set to debut on Starz sometime this summer, and it seems likely that with a premiere only a few months out that a trailer will be coming sooner than later.
