Keegan-Michael Key To Star In “August Snow” For ABC
Keegan-Michael Key is one of the most prolific stars in Hollywood today. The famous funnyman first came to prominence as part of the comedy duo, Key & Peele, but has since become a staple in film and TV, and as well as lending his voice to a myriad of animated projects, such as Pixar’s Toy Story. Now, the actor and comedian is set to star in and produce the new drama series for ABC titled August Snow.
Key will portray the namesake character, a former military man and detective who got pushed out of his job by corruption in the police force. However, he became a millionaire as he won an $18 million wrongful termination settlement on the way out.
The story will follow Key’s Snow who returns to his hometown of Detroit years after the aforementioned workplace debacle. He’ll seek to reconnect with his family and the home he left behind, while setting up shop as a private investigator where he’ll lead a group of at-risk youths looking for a better path. Along the way he’ll have to confront the many demons of his past, while simultaneously confronting threats on both sides of the law.
The series is being developed by Imagine Television Studios and CBS Studios. Paul Eckstein, the co-creator and executive producer of Godfather of Harlem, will be the project showrunner and writer, which is based on the acclaimed series of novels from author Stephen Mack, which has received a script commitment plus penalty.
Key, Eckstein, Brian Grazer, Samie Kim Falvey, Jeff Gaspin and Tony Sabistina will executive produce. There is no timeline for the show, though, as it is still in the formative stages, though if everything goes well it could start production before the end of the year. It is likely being planned as a new series for the Fall of 2021, though it could be pushed to sometime in 2022, depending on how things progress.
