Erin Moriarty To Lead “True Haunting” For Screen Gems

Erin Moriarty as her character Starlight from "The Boys"

Erin Moriarty, one of the stars of Amazon’s uberviolent superhero series, The Boys, has just signed on to lead True Haunting for Screen Gems. The film will be based on Edwin F. Becker’s book of the same name. She’ll be joined by Jamie Campbell Bower (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), who’s also joined the cast as the male lead, with more casting announcements expecting in the coming months.

True Haunting is based on true events and will follow the story of Ed and Marsha Becker after they purchase their first home. However, once they take up residence in the house, things take a turn for the worse as they learn that the dwelling is haunted by ghosts, specifically, the evil family that first lived there and died under tragic and violent circumstances. The Beckers are at a loss for what to do and choose to turn to an exorcism, hoping this will rid their home of the malevolent spirits, though that only makes things go from bad to worse.

This story is notable because the exorcism was actually televised, with millions of viewers tuning in to witness the Beckers trying to cleanse their home. This was the first time something like this was ever tried, and the success of the endeavor directly led to more “true life” stories such as this hitting the airwaves.

Gary Fleder has been tapped to direct True Haunting and the script is currently in-development, though there is no timetable for when the movie could head into production. It’s likely this project is being lined up for Summer or Halloween 2023, especially given the success of other “true life” horror stories, such as The Conjuring film series. Moriarty, for her part, can next be seen in the third season of The Boys, which sees her returning as the character Starlight.
