Ella Purnell Cast In Amazon’s “Fallout” Series

A helmet settled in the wasteland of the "Fallout" game series.

Amazon has been making great strides in the TV space, with hits like Upload, and continuing exciting franchises like The Lord of the Rings. However, one of their most exciting projects coming down the pipeline is a series adaptation of the fan favorite video game franchise, Fallout. And now, it has been announced that Yellowjackets star Ella Purnell has scored a lead role in the production.

The first game in the Fallout series released in 1997 and has continued on since, gaining both cult status and critical acclaim, with Fallout 4 proving to be the best-selling iteration, with over 13 million copies sold to date. The last installment, Fallout 76, released back in 2018 to somewhat mixed reviews, though. The story is set in a world where the future, as envisioned by Americans in the late 1940s, explodes upon itself through a nuclear war in 2077. It’s expected that the series is going to adhere very closely to the story beats of the games.

Purnell has been making quite a name for herself lately, currently starring in Yellowjackets, she also featured in Zack Snyder’s Netflix film, Army of the Dead, as well as lending her voice to the Paramount+ animated show, Star Trek: Prodigy. She joins previously announced Walton Goggins, who is the main lead of the show, and it is anticipated that more cast announcements are going to start rolling out. Which character she will be portraying is currently under wraps, though her role is described as “upbeat and uncannily direct”.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner serve as executive producers and co-showrunners while Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy executive produce. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year. Currently, there is not planned release for the Fallout series, though, given the high about of CGI that will be required, it’s likely it won’t be ready until Winter 2024, at the earliest.
