Warners And Rocksteady Push “Suicide Squad” To 2023
Rocksteady hit it big in the mainstream with their Batman Arkham series, with Arkham Knight re-imagining the fan-favorite Under the Red Hood storyline, to the delight of both fans and critics. Their highly anticipated next game, however, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, has just hit a major delay.
After their rousing success, the game developer bowed out of any further Batman work, though rumor quickly spread that they were going to proceed with a Superman title, or perhaps, even a Birds of Prey Arkham spin-off. However, the truth was revealed at DC’s Fandome event in late 2020, when Warners announced that the project was going to actually be a Suicide Squad game. They even returned the next year to show off some gameplay at the same event.
According to a report from Bloomberg, though, it is being said that the game won’t be coming out until sometime in late 2023, which is 8 full years from the release of Arkham Knight. While the expectation was that Suicide Squad would be ready for release this summer, report says according to “people familiar with its development,” it just isn’t ready and that the studio needs more time.
The delay follows in the wake of numerous games being delayed from late last year into 2022 as the global pandemic has hit the development sector hard, so there won’t be a lack of releases. If anything, this delay will give Rocksteady a chance to kick off the marketing campaign in a stronger fashion and get audiences on board.
While this is certainly disappointing, it’s good that Warner Bros. and Rocksteady are willing to back off and take the time the need to make sure that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is up to snuff. The last thing they want is a Cyberpunk 2077 debacle and have the fandom up in arms over a subpar product.
