Supergiant’s “Hades” Named Game Of The Year
2020 has, undoubtedly, been a strange year. From a global pandemic that has forced businesses to change operations and events to cancel en masse, to murder hornets and a presidential election that just won’t seem to stop. One of the few bright spots, however, has been the gaming industry, which has been on the rise. More people have turned to video games as an outlet and there has been an abundance of quality. In fact, the Washington Post just listed its best of 2020 and named Hades as the game of the year.
Hades is an action RPG developed by Supergiant Games. The game is notable for its stunning animation and unique story, which features Zagreus, the son of Hades, the Greek God of the Underworld, trying to escape his fathers’ realm.
All this innovation came on top of a crackling, nonstop action game that could blister the thumbs of the most hardened players, all the while providing options to make the game easier to play for just about anyone intrigued by its art style and story. In a year of so many exhausting questions, “Hades” provided answers and solutions. Developers of games beyond 2020 should take notes.
There have been more high-profile successes, such as Insomniac’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales or The Last Of Us Part II, but Hades easily on par with those and is the rare game that work effortlessly. It’s easy to understand the mechanics and the plot is engrossing enough to keep players coming back. But what do you think? Does the Supergiant game deserve the top prize, or is there another game more deserving? Sound off below!
