Insomniac’s “Spider-Man 2” Teaser Drops At PlayStation Showcase

Insomniac’s Spider-Man dropped way back in 2018 and was met with rave reviews. Critics noted the smart story mixed with inventive gameplay, particularly for the web-swinging mechanics. Audiences, meanwhile, were in complete agreement, with the title become one of the most popular that year.

Last year, a spin-off, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which follows the young Morales coming to grips with his Spider-powers and learning how to wield them. This was very much a holdover, though, in the vein of the Uncharted spin-offs, meaning the game was far shorter and was basically an oversized DLC for the original game.

As such, fans of the franchise have been eagerly anticipating a proper follow-up. But the wait is now over, as PlayStation, in response to some bad PR as a result of their somewhat lackluster 2021 line-up, provided some big announcements at their recent showcase, the biggest of which was the Spider-Man sequel teaser.

The trailer sees Peter Parker and Miles Morales working together and battling some street-level baddies when a mysterious figure appears. That person turns out to be the Marvel villain Venom making his monstrous debut.

Moreover, it was announced that the iconic Tony Todd would be voicing the legendary symbiote, while both Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter are returning as Peter and Miles, respectively. It was also announced that the title would once again be a Sony exclusive, specifically for the PS5, so don’t expect a PS4 version or a PC port. Insomniac’s Spider-Man sequel is set to release in 2023, though a definite date wasn’t announced.
