Kingdom Hearts is one of the most eclectic franchises in the Square Enix portfolio, with game merging family friendly Disney characters, like Goofy and Mickey Mouse, with elements of the Final Fantasy franchise. Over the twenty years since the first games  release, it has garnered leaginons of devoted fans that have been clamoring for a fourth installment. Well, the wait is over, as at a 20th Anniversary Event held in Tokyo over the weekend, Disney and Square Enix have announced Kingdom Hearts IV alongside a trailer, as well as a mobile spin-off Kingdom Hearts Missing Link

The new game will kick off a new storyline being referred to as “Lost Master Arc”, with players getting introduced to a brand-new city, Quadratum, that will be the hub for most of the action. All the favorites, from frachise lead character Sora, to most of the Disney classics, are returning alongside the mysterious new character, Strelitzia.

The series has shipped over 33 million units throughout its run, with Kingdom Hearts III being the last installment, releasing back in 2019. Of note, there was no announced release window or platforms for either Kingdom Hearts IV or the mobile game, suggesting that development is still in the early stages and the games are likely several years off.
