Sony Drops First “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” Trailer

Venom was something of a surprise hit when it released back in 2018. It was a bit of unknown quantity, as it was clearly separate from the MCU and Sony has had a bit of a spotty track record in terms of their Marvel adaptations to date. And even though critics were largely negative towards the film, audiences flocked to it, with the movie banking $855 million worldwide in box office receipts.

As such, it was no surprise that a sequel was quickly greenlit, with the focus to be on the rivalry between Venom and fan-favorite, Carnage, who actually appeared in an after credits scene played by the incomparable Woody Harrelson. After that, there was a bit of a creative shake-up, with Andy Serkis being named as the helmer for the project, and the announcement of the title: Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

After some significant delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony has released the first trailer for the movie, which sees Tom Hardy back in the lead role and facing off, kind of, against Harrelson’s Carnage. Naomie Harris is also joining the cast and is rumored to be playing another symbiote, Shriek. This casting seems to be in response to the biggest complaint of the first being the underwhelming nature of the villain. With Harrelson’s manic and insane Carnage, as well as the unpredictable Shriek, there should be no bad guy issues this time around.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to be released on September 24th, just in time for the Halloween season that the original found such great success in. While the first film was something of an odd blend between traditional superhero action and romantic comedy, the sequel is switching gears and looks to be taking inspiration from buddy cop films like Lethal Weapon and The Other Guys.
